Bayesian Statistics Tutorials

January 22 to March 25, 2020; Wednesdays from 1.00 to 3.00 PM

Each week, there are two lectures to watch and then a set of homework problems to attempt. The meetings each week are for the purpose of working through the homework solutions. It is important to attempt the homework, so you know what you are confused about. Bring your confusion and we'll work through it.

For participating regularly and doing all homework sets, PhD students can get 1 ECTS.

Introductory R Course

March 5, 6, 9 and 10, 10.00 AM to 12.30 PM

This course is intended for people who have not worked in R before. The following topics will be covered:

  • R as calculator, logical requests, functions
  • object types, workspace & R-Script, packages
  • loading data, subsetting objects, data exploration, reshaping
  • basic data summaries, looking at data, object structure
  • basic plotting, mainly using ggplot

For participating regularly and doing all homework sets, PhD students can get 1 ECTS.

This introductory R course will prepare you for the R Markdown workshop on April 20.

Introduction to RMarkdown

MPI-EVA, Deutscher Platz 6, 4th Floor Seminar Room, H4.10
April 20, 9 AM to 4.30 PM

This one-day workshop will provide an introduction to using RMarkdown to write reproducible reports and manuscripts. We will cover a basic introduction to RMarkdown and then focus specifically on writing journal articles and result reports in RMarkdown. The introductory topics will include setting up documents; embedding code, figures, and tables; formatting text and using different export formats. In the second half of the course we will then cover automated result reports, workflows for writing journal articles, more advanced formatting and integrating tracked changes.

The workshop is aimed at researchers at any level with previous experience using R. Knowledge of RMarkdown is not required. This is a hands on course and participants must bring a laptop.
